Turn Your Worn Tooling Into Cash

If you work in manufacturing, machining, or metalworking, there’s a good chance you’ve accumulated scrap carbide inserts, tips, drill bits, or other carbide shapes over time. At P.C. Metals, Inc., we’ve been buying scrap carbide from machinists, fabricators, and industrial shops throughout the Bridgeport area and greater Fairfield County for over 50 years. We pay competitive prices, use state-certified scales, and make the process straightforward from start to finish.

Carbide inserts and shapes are precision cutting tools made primarily from tungsten carbide — one of the hardest and most wear-resistant materials used in industrial manufacturing. Because tungsten is a rare and valuable material, scrap carbide holds significant resale and recycling value even after the tool has worn out or broken.

How We Price Carbide Scrap

Carbide pricing is based on material composition — primarily the percentage of tungsten content. Higher tungsten concentrations (generally 85% or above) typically command better per-pound pricing. The form of the carbide also plays a role: clean inserts and bits are often easier to process than larger solid pieces.

We’ll weigh your material on our state-certified scales, tell you what we’re paying, and give you a receipt showing gross weight, tare weight, net weight, and price per pound. No guesswork. No hidden deductions.

How to Identify Carbide

A quick magnet test can help — unlike steel, carbide only weakly attracts to a magnet. Look for these signs:

  • Weak magnetic attraction (won’t snap onto a magnet like ferrous steel)
  • Noticeably heavier than it looks for its size
  • Bright, metallic gray appearance on freshly broken pieces
  • Extremely hard — difficult to scratch with common tools

Still unsure? Just bring it in. We’ll identify your material and explain what it’s worth — no charge, no obligation to sell.
